If you suffer from hemorrhoids, you know how hard it can be to manage the condition. But fortunately, there are more treatment options to choose from than ever before. If your hemorrhoids are severe or chronic, hemorrhoid removal surgery might even be an option for you.

Before you consider surgery, you should attempt to ease your condition through less invasive means. You need to find out if you’re a good candidate for surgery, so you’ll have to schedule an examination with your doctor. Usually, there are some unmistakable signs when surgery is warranted. These include ongoing pain and itching, excessive bleeding and clots, and even infection.

The traditional method of removing hemorrhoids is by rubber band ligation. This procedure involves placing a rubber band at the base of the hemorrhoid. Because the blood flow is cut off, it dies and eventually falls away. A major drawback to this procedure is the visible scars that remain.

These days, however, laser hemorrhoid removal surgery has quickly become one of the most popular treatments for hemorrhoids. Laser treatment has been shown to be very effective in removing hemorrhoids. The laser acts as a cauterizing agent during the removal process. This results in minimal bleeding throughout and following the surgery. Discomfort is greatly lessened as well. But similar to any surgical treatment, you will likely experience some discomfort afterward. You may experience pain after the surgery, but this should only be for a few days. To help with the discomfort, take some pain relievers like ibuprofen or acetaminophen.

If you’re planning to undergo surgery for your hemorrhoids, you might be wondering how much recovery time is involved. This will vary from one person to another, and you will need to discuss this with your surgeon for an accurate assessment. There are many things to take into account, like how healthy you are and your ability to resist infection. Generally, though, the recovery time is quite short.

The outcome of these procedures is very good in most cases. However, you will need to follow through with the appropriate preventive measures afterward in order to ensure that you don’t develop the hemorrhoids again. For one, you need to be eating a proper diet and getting enough exercise. In many cases, those who have had surgery for their hemorrhoids resume their old eating habits. Frequently, they go on to develop hemorrhoids once again.

What works well for someone else might not be the most appropriate treatment of hemorrhoids for you. Each of us is unique. If you want to find the optimal solution for your problem, it’s important that you discuss your condition in detail with your physician.
